Onions

There are a lot of rumours about McDonald's onions that have been around for several years. Some people talk about McDonald's using fake onions in our burgers and salads. That couldn't be further from the truth,  we aim to dispel any rumours and tell you the real story.

LOCALLY GROWN

We use local New Zealand onions grown on farms in Franklin, the Waikato and Hawke's Bay.

DIFFERENT ONIONS FOR DIFFERENT BURGERS

All freshly grown onions are washed the same way you'd see them in a ready to eat supermarket salad. To get the best balance and taste profile, we use a couple of types of onions. Quarter Pounders get a diced white onion, while red onion and caramelised onion feature in our Gourmet Creations burgers. For the Big Mac and cheeseburger we use dehydrated onion that is mixed with pure New Zealand water.
